Première Scène

January 26 & 27

Launched in 1999, the Lycée's annual competition of French theater welcomes over 400 students, ages 10-18, from schools across the U.S., Canada and France, in this highlight of the francophone community in New York. Each year, a feeling of discovery, suprise and extraordinary energy fills the theater!
Première Scène is a unique opportunity for students who already speak French or are learning French to immerse themselves in French language and culture. Many participants have only studied French for a year or two. The Festival presents them with an exciting challenge and opportunity to learn lines, delve into the meaning of words and phrases, perform in a new foreign language, and meet and learn from new friends in French. New York City public schools in the Dual-Language Program, as well as French Heritage Program schools are among the participants each year.

For the 2018 edition, students will create their own work or present excerpted work on the theme "Nature!" in plays of seven minutes or less.

Support for the festival is generously made possible by the Cadahemark Foundation.
