Première Scène

Launched in 1999, the Lycée's annual competition of French theater welcomes over 400 students, ages 10-18, from schools across the U.S., Canada and France. This event is a yearly highlight for New York’s francophone community.

Watch it live, right here
Première Scène is a unique opportunity for students who already speak French or are learning the language to master lines and delve into the meaning of words and phrases in French language and culture. Each year, participants create their own work or present excerpted work in plays of five minutes or less with a minimal decor. It's an exciting challenge and opportunity to meet and learn from new friends in French.

Whether texts from the repertoire or original compositions, sketches, mini dramas or comedies, the presentations all have one thing in common: a theme that changes every year.

For the 2022 performance, we have chosen… "Miroirs et Fenêtres" (theater prop, the fourth wall, space within and beyond, self and others...).
