Première Scène

Launched in 1999, the Lycée's annual competition of French theater welcomes over 400 students, ages 10-18, from schools across the U.S., Canada and France. This event is a yearly highlight for New York’s francophone community. The next Première Scène will take place on March 5 and 6, 2021.

Talk to me about love...

Première Scène is a unique opportunity for students who already speak French or are learning the language to master lines and delve into the meaning of words and phrases in French language and culture. Each year, participants create their own work or present excerpted work in plays of seven minutes or less with a minimal decor. It's an exciting challenge and opportunity to meet and learn from new friends in French.

This year we have changed the festival dates to give you more time. We also suggest that you submit your work as a video. The final presentation will be either on stage or here, on the Cultural Center's website.

Whether texts from the repertoire or original compositions, sketches, mini dramas or comedies, the presentations all have one thing in common: a theme that changes every year. For the 2021 performance, we have chosen… "Speak to me about love" (because that's really what we all need).

See you on March 5 and 6, 2021!
