Aurélien Kairo and Karla Pollux
Dance and Empathy
From November 4 to 8, 2019
5th grade
Dancer and choreographer Aurélien Kairo returns to the Lycée to teach students emotional sensibilities and empathy through dance. This year, he offered dance workshops which foster the creation of listening skills, improvisation with a lead and follower and improvisation with music. Students will learn to react in a more sensitive way to each others' expressions.
Initially a danser in famous French festivals such as the Midem de Cannes and the Francofolies, Aurélien Kairo organizes in 1997 the first French Breakdance Battle. In the following years, he takes on the role of choreographer and in 2002, opens the Cie De Fakto, a hip-hop dance company based in Lyon. His dance creation "Le Chêne et le Roseau", inspired by La Fontaine's Fables, becomes a national hit and tours around the country and abroad with more than 550 shows. In demand by numerous theaters, festivals and artists, the following years are replete with new creations and collaborations. Currently, Aurélien is directing and choreographing a new production with Cie De Fakto: a contemporary hip-hop dance duo around the music "Melody Nelson" by Serge Gainsbourg. The first shows are scheduled for early 2020.
