It's been 57 years since Yuri Gagarin became the first person to journey into space, and a new phase of space exploration has begun. If the predictions of Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Richard Branson hold true, in the not-so-distant future, humans will be able to live far beyondour terrestrial frontiers. Which raises major questions:
➤ Will space exploration save us from the imminent dangers that threaten our civilisation? 🚀
➤ Or, should our efforts and resources be focused on addressing urgent challenges here at home, on planet earth? 🌏

French Literary Evening with Olivier Barrot

Arthur Dreyfus, winner of the French Young Writer Prize and Orange Book Prize, is the guest of TV journalist Olivier Barrot for this literary evening. A writer, journalist, film director and even magician, Arthur Dreyfus is first and foremost a creator.
Olivier Barrot has hosted for 10 years   "French Literature in the Making" at NYU and is also presenting Classics of French Cinema at the French Institute Alliance Francaise. The Lycee is proud to host the French Literary Evenings with Olivier Barrot.

APL Evening Talk

Teacher and education journalist, Jessica Lahey is the author of the New York Times bestselling book, The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed. She explains how autonomy-supportive parenting and teaching not only boosts kids' motivation, but improves educational outcomes. During this talk, Jessica will share her instruction and assessment methods to promote deep, durable learning and engagement.

A Look at Innovative Approaches to Peacemaking

How do countries transition from a state of war to a state of peace? Which stakeholders should be at the table? What peacemaking strategies are most effective in helping disentangle complicated situations of con ict?
Frédérique Bedos, founder of the NGO “Le Projet Imagine; Marc Jacquand, Lycée parent and expert in post-con ict and peacemaking programs; and Saskia Keeley, Lycée alumni parent and photojournalist, will share their expertise, along with various innovative approaches to making long-lasting peace.

In this illuminating 2017 documentary called BRAINIOUS, journalist and director Stéphanie Brillant assembles experts from neuroscience, psychology, culture and education to help us better understand how a child's brain develops through social and emotional experiences.

AI and the Jobs of Tomorrow

A robot, a neuroscientist, and three business leaders took the Lycee stage to discuss AI and what it means for education, work, and the skills and dispositions required to thrive in the not-so-distant future. With Bruno Dupire (former Lycée parent) of Bloomberg, Michael Oliver Weinberg (Lycée parent), Brigette Hyacinth (leadership expert), Rafael Yuste (neuroscientist), and, yes, a robot, Bina48. Moderated by our own Adena Dershowitz, who oversees digital learning for the school.
