Raphaël Liogier
Raphaël Liogier is a sociologist and philosopher whose major works include Le Mythe de l’islamisation, La Guerre des civilisations n’aura pas lieu, and Sans emploi. He closely followed the outpour of accounts of sexual harassment and rape from the many women’s voices that comprise the #MeToo movement. Deeply compelled by the movement’s importance and fueled by a personal sense of disgust and dismay, Liogier draws on his academic expertise to examine the underlying causes of gender inequality and how we can fight against it in the timely, self-reflexive book Heart of Maleness: An Exploration. Véronique Christory
Véronique Christory is the Senior Arms Control Adviser for the International Committee of the Red Cross, Delegation to the UN. Since 1997, she promotes and develops laws regulating the use of weapons, notably nuclear weapons as well as new technologies e.g Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems and Cyber. She recently negotiated the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (2017). The historic importance of the Treaty has been highlighted by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN)’s 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. She holds two MA in International Relations and in Russian and Slavic and Eastern European Studies from the Langues O’ in Paris (INALCO), Paris. Guest on Friday, February 28, 2020.
John R. MacArthur
John R. (Rick) MacArthur, president and publisher of Harper's Magazine is an award-winning journalist and author. Before joining Harper's Magazine, Mr. MacArthur was an assistant foreign editor at United Press International (1982) and a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times (1979-1982), Bergen Record (1978-1979), Washington Star (1978), and Wall Street Journal (1977). He writes for newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Boston Globe and Los Angeles Times. Gérard Araud
Gérard Araud, 66, a career diplomat, has retired in April 2019 from the French foreign service as Ambassador of France to the United States (2014-2019). He previously held numerous positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, notably Director for Strategic Affairs, Security and Disarmament (2000-2003), Ambassador of France to Israel (2003-2006), Director General for Political Affairs and Security (2006-2009), and Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations in New York (2009-2014). Over the course of his career, Mr. Araud has developed specialized knowledge in two key areas: the Middle East and strategic and security issues. Guest on Friday, November 24, 2019.
Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet
Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet joined Capgemini, a consulting firm specialized in IT services and digital transformation, in February 2018. Kosciusko-Morizet leads the Project and Consulting activity of the Group's Cloud Infrastructure and Cybersecurity division in North America. Beforehand, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet held high political positions. She was, Secretary ofState for the Prospective and Development of the Digital Economy (2009-2010) and as such, led thedigital component of the large loan (investments for the future), and Minister of Finance for Ecology,Sustainable Development, Transportation and Housing (2010-2012). Luc Hardy
Luc Hardy is an entrepreneur, veteran adventurer, environmental advocate, author, and member of the Explorers Club of New York. Over the years, Luc has led several expeditions in polar and glacier regions: in 2003 he went to Antarctica to highlight the region’s importance as a regulator of global weather systems and in 2007, he led a team of scientists to Greenland to explore the effects of climate change on local wildlife.
